Puan Sri Akmal Abdul Salam is a distinguished Malaysian philanthropist, advocate, and community leader whose life’s work has been defined by a deep commitment to social impact, particularly in advancing breast cancer awareness and support in Malaysia.

Appointed Patron of the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia in 2005, Puan Sri Akmal has been instrumental in elevating the organisation’s visibility and reach. Under her patronage, BCWA has expanded its initiatives to include nationwide awareness campaigns through MURNI (Mobile Unit Reaching Nationwide with Information) clinics, early detection advocacy, and holistic survivor support programmes. Her leadership has helped foster a strong sense of community among survivors, encouraging peer support and empowering women to navigate life beyond diagnosis with dignity and resilience.

Prior to her involvement with BCWA, she served as Chairperson of Puteri DRB-HICOM, where she led impactful grassroots initiatives focused on uplifting underserved communities. Her early exposure to corporate social responsibility laid the foundation for her lifelong dedication to philanthropy, particularly in championing women’s health and welfare.
